this is music 11.16.08

found some new music for the week...
currently on heavy itunes digital rotation

FOALS: Antidotes
Friendly Fires: Friendly Fires

Both bands are UK bred and super pop-y.. meaning they will probably never make it to the states...Dancy and GoooD.....
put them on for a long drive or a short one to your local market..

Foals- pretty typical Brit pop/rock- super easy listening... I'll say mild Minus the Bear tendencies. taut, knotty, danceable post-punk

Friendly Fires- think TV on the Radio, but little white dudes.
here's a review from a little publication called rolling stone.

haha.... im still getting to know them myself, so i dont have much advice to offer except LISTEN!

FOALS: BALLOONS

FRIENDLY FIRES: JUMP IN THE POOL

sometimes life is forgotten.

i came across this site and felt it was appropriate to share
with all this CHANGE that will soon be happening..

with my life moving in so many directions,
I sometimes forget our problems overseas..

this is just a reminder to all.

when things are great, they're still just ok?

i read a previous post and realized i have yet to conclude my rascal flatts story.
i ended up not getting the position
apparently, they are not hiring anyone at this time.
i was told tour assistants would be used to fill the position until they left for tour again.

ive known for a while but realizations have sunk in
-the music industry is not doing well.
people are losing their jobs
others are literally working FOR FREE.

if 20 year veterans are having a hard time,
why would a 20 something recent college grad be hired off the street?
besides the fact that this 20 something would work for free.
oh desperation.

then to top it off...
if its possible to fail the GRE, ive done it.
lets hope belmont really doesnt care about my score.
YIKEES!

on the up-side...
a very amazing person has recently entered my life.
his determination and motivation keep me positive everyday.
i hope it also keeps me focused for a while to come.

i dont think he realizes how happy he has already made me in such a short time.
as im usually at a loss for words in a serious conversation,
i hope he'll read this.

in conclusion:: love life is ahhmazing, work life not so much >> education here i come, i hope.

this is hot.

halle berry was voted sexiest woman alive by esquire mag..
yea she totally deserves it..

her acceptance speech is unbeatable.
here's a highlight- so go read it yourself.

Ah, yes: the big O. You know that stuff they say about a woman being responsible for her own orgasms? That's all true. And in my case, that makes me responsible for pretty damned good orgasms these days. Much better orgasms than when I was twenty-two. And I wouldn't let a man control that. Not anymore. Now I'd invite him to participate. I'll tell you this: I've learned my tricks. I know what I like. I do not wait around. I initiate. And I'm not all about frequency. I favor intensity.

oh baby.. i cant wait to get through my 20s, haha..

this is something new im trying.

so i had a job interview with rascal flatts.
2 actually.

i have yet to hear back from them, and im starting to worry a little.
some of you know and some of you dont know that i dropped out of the pre-vet program at mtsu.
it just wasnt for me.

ive just been so worried that im not going to find my place in life soon enough
its forcing me to make some irrational and snap decisions.

i mean i have no idea what i want to do.
and i know that i dont have to know what i want to do forever right now,
but why does everyone make it seem like you do?

why is everyone in such a rush that it forces me to be in a rush?
there are so many things in my life that i think im ready for.

in the meantime, im completing my admissions for belmont's masters in teaching program.
i will simultaneously receive a bachelors in english..
grades 7-12.
not something i ever thought i would do.

i have always felt i am here for some great reason.
i am supposed to make an impact- as boastful as it sounds.
what better way than becoming a teacher?

at least i will always have a respectable and enjoyable fallback plan.
lets hope.

employment, relationships, my future- its seems im so ready for each, but they're just not ready for me.
i feel like ive tried to make each happen, but im constantly failing.

its like im losing in my own race of life.

tim left for africa on friday.
its been on my mind quite a lot.
a lot more than i thought it would.
our relationship evolved and morphed so many times in the near 3 years ive known him.
its hard to realize that he is finally out of my physical life.

now im forced to move on and experience what ive been holding out on.
it just seems that nothing is quite ready for me..

maybe this is just who i am.
sorry im dumping this on everyone..
i just wanted to write about something that is real.

this brings back memories.

so i was watching current.tv the other day..
lovin it, as always.

anyway- a pod about showbiz pizza came on.
you know that amazing place that chuck-e-cheese bought out.

i cant do it enough justice, so ill let you watch the video
search for more, they're great..

ps. they were featured in mgmt's "electric feel" video.. nice.. its posted elsewhere on my blog.

this is the long way home.

im at the airport in denver, colorado.
you know home to those wee mountains known as the rockies?
im sure youve hear of 'em.

its been a rocky trip so far.
-no pun intended.
i wrecked my rental car on friday morning in the rain.
first wreck ever and hundreds of miles away from home.

now im sitting at the airport anticipating the 2 hour flight home.
it was my first trip back since i moved a year ago june.
things were the same.
life was the same.
the people were exactly the same.

it felt nice.
it also reminded me that i dont need to be here to be happy.
as much as i keep telling myself.

starting today, i will try harder to love myself and be happy in my surroundings.
granted, i do plan on moving in the near future.

see you all again soon.
in the great state of tennessee.

but i will miss this.

this is the future. at least for me

as most of you know, ive been pondering the whereabouts of my future for quite sometime
and while i might never grasp my full purpose in life, id like to think that sometimes i get a glimpse.

ive recently decided to study animal science which will eventually point me in the path of a wildlife veterinarian.
i have re-enrolled in mtsu for the semester where i will start with the basics and contine until either spring or summer.
after which i have applied to colleges across the country in order to claim residency in my vet school state of choice.

i have read several articles on the difficulty of getting into vet school if you are not a resident of the particular state.
i am currently a resident of TN and the fact that UT's vet school is easier than most to get into makes we want to try that much harder to get into a more difficult program.

im finished taking the easy route.
i did that once before and look just how far it got me!
so as painful as this process is going to be, i couldnt imagine a better way to spend the rest of my life.

i love animals, i love helping, and i looove travel.
this is my ideal career- if you can call it that!
more a way of life.

in my research of wildlife conservation, i came across some pretty amazing programs.
the one i am most interested in will take me to Sri Lanka to work with an Elephant Conservation project.
elephants have always been my favorite animal (if you will) so this is an exciting opportunity.
i have applied for the program and all the kinks are being dealt- as school conflicts with several months.
the trip is very short but will put in the mindset of what i will- hopefully- encounter everyday in the future!

the company id work with: Global Vision International

here are some awesome videos...

this is the new advertising??

i came across this youtube video that involves teens timing themselves while getting dressed.
at first, i didnt think anything of it, but as the video continues, it becomes very clear what is going on.

these kids are practicing getting dressed in a short amount of time as not to be caught be their parents.
worst of all, this is a department store ad.

i totally understand the 1st amendment and that as the years go by, more and more ads of this nature will start to appear.
however, is this necessary?
it just seems a shotty way for a department store to advertise its products.
what does it even have to do with shopping?

watch the video, and let me know what you think!

Friday, May 23, 2008

this is weezer, for sure.

so as a youtube enthusiast, i have to post the new weezer video "pork and beans."
the have taken all the crazy youtube celebs and incorporated them into the video.
even that crazy south carolinian pageant girl, you know the one.

im so pumped about this video.
i dont care what anyone says, rivers and the crew are genious.
they always come up with something new and exciting!

so here it is.

this is cross cultural.

everyday i am more and more amazed by technology.
i cannot fathom where the world would be without these great accomplishments.
even more, i cant wait to see what else there is to come.

the people behind these great inventions have unbeliveable talent.
their minds work in a way that i only wish mine did.

what prompted my thoughts are some videos my friend zak posted from japan.
JAPAN.. he is in japan, and i am here...
but i am watching his videos..

its like i am so accustomed to the luxuries that i havent (recently) taken the time to delight in them.
so here is a video of zak and his friends, doing it up.. japan stylee.

you should subscribe to his youtube.. he updates often.

this is an techonological fruitcake of sorts.

i started out wanting to write a blog every 7 days, but sometimes i am not inspired or when I am, I completely forget everything I am going to say..

I have been pondering this one for a while, so i guess ill share my thoughts now... I have recently been reading about Apple and how secretive its business practices are...

for example.

whoa
i cant believe it

and this last link stirs up a moral dilemma.. for me at least...

as an avid Apple supporter, should I continue to be faithful to the mighty technological fruit or as an aspiring migrant of the entertainment industry, do i branch out in order to support other entertainment downloading sites??

amazon.com: who id say is apple's biggest competitor
napster: the one time free downloading rules of the world and metallica's fav site.
emusic" who is currently offering 50 free downloads

so what do you think? i know its silly but really.. is apple as great as we have all be "brainwashed" to think? is microsoft really that bad? or are they both planning world domination, and we should destroy our computers asap?!?

i came across some interesting blogs from "steve jobs." i have yet to really dig into them, so I'm not sure if they are legit or not.

people are really beginning or continuing to hate this company..

pc world
some random hater

but who can blaime them?

yes, i do continue to buy their products.. having 2 ipods and 2 macbooks along with an assload of accessories that go along with them.. and yes, i will continue to stand up for the company..

why? because i am a forward thinker... I enjoy progressive innovators, the movers and shakers- if you will.. apple inhibits all of these qualities and more. always looking to the future and always creating "better" products...

but really- why should i? what has apple done for me lately?
come out with a new ipod, two months after i purchased my now less amazing one or introduced the macbook after i purchased my larger than normal ibook?
what about all those people who bought an iphone and then found out one with a larger storage capacity was to be released.

is this what keeps people coming back for more? do you think that by being secretive, people are more enchanted by the company or do is it just overplayed advertisements mac and pc lovers both cannot get enough of?

whatever it is, steve jobs and his unrelentlessness is paying off..
well, except for the fact that my macbook speakers have suddenly stopped working and the apple store turned me away during tax free weekend.

so on a completely different and more uplifting note...

this is feist-ily sexy.

feist's the reminder has been playing in my car...
the song intuition is such a sexy song.
i cant stop listening to it.

for some reason the first chords sound very familiar..
anyone know what they might be from?

anyway- here's a vid. enjoy!!

this is financially ridiculous.

so i have yet to unveil my undying love of Current TV.
its pretty much the best thing going right now.
it has created a web based format and converted it to television.
however, you can still get it online as well.

this channel is basically user content.
there are some actual staff but for the most part people like you and me turn in the videos..
i cant even begin to tell you how amazing this channel is.

its tv in a.d.d. format
short little snipets that are informative
with google facts sprinkled here and there.

so there is a segment called iM or infoMania, and the main correspondent is conor knighton.
the segment most commonly talks about thins going on in the media through tv and the internet.
this afternoon was a segment about the financial publications (i.e. wallstreet journal) and how unhelpful their new virals on finance are...
brett erlich is sometimes on infomania and is pretty humorous..
this is his take on the situation..

did i mention how funny he is???

this is music 03.20.08

i just realized that
1. i havent blogged about my newest musical loves
and
2. i havent even blogged in over a week!

so how about both at one time?

Digitalism's Idealism
- this sound gets me going when im out for sure.

when i first listened to them, i was really into it so i- itunes'd- the album. then for some reason, i put it in the back of my head only to rediscover it a couple of days ago. it has a daft punk-y feel, but who wouldnt want more daft punk...

less daft punk
more digitalism party?

i think so!

Justice's †

first off, i dont know what didnt give it away, but this a group of christian djs form France.. not sure why that matters except maybe jews wont like them... and muslims, too.

anyway- they just happen to be playing a show with my boys flosstradamus!
but its in chicago- and tonight... haha..

they're somewhat all over the map, but i can shake my booty to it...
and you can, too...

MGMT's Oracle Spectacular

Oh geez.
this is my jam right now.
in my car, in the shower, in my head
whenever im out, i cant wait to get into the car to hear these guys.

its total dance pop..
their myspace says surf/jungle/country
uhhhh right..

Tuesday, March 11, 2008

this is americas best dance crew. really?

have you guys watched americas best dance crew?
well in short..

its a dance crew of about 7
guys and gals
they get themes and then make up routines that mimic or are inspired by that theme.

the host is our very own A.C. Slater.
the judges are Shane Sparks, Lil' Mama and JC Chasez
oh and i just read that randy jackson created the show.

so JC Chasez is one of the judges
im not really sure why he got picked..
because he was in nsync and has a little dance experience?
i mean i guess the mickey mouse club counts.

but anyways- he is soooo annoying to listen to.
he just appears awkward and doesnt know how to interact with the troupes.

[sidenote]
did you know randy jackson had a stint with Journey?
yea- dont stop believin' journey..
learn something everyday!

Monday, March 3, 2008

this is an indie film- so im told.

i think i might be the only one who thinks Juno was the worst thing to hit earth this past year.
even more so than the satellite we had to shoot down last month.

i just didnt like it.
i felt it was trying to have that indie feel.
now everyone and their mom is walking around thinking they are an indie movie lover.

pretentious, you say?
well, maybe, i am.
but really- didnt anyone else think this?

i felt the plot line was jumping all over the place
it made me uncomfortable to watch ellen page and jason bateman interact.
i had to cover my eyes anytime they were alone.
thanks for ruining my image of the bateman.

however, i will give credit for some of the more clever dialog in the movie.

Paulie Bleeker: I still have your underwear.
Juno MacGuff: I still have your virginity.
Paulie Bleeker: Would you shut up?

source

all in all, it was an o.k. movie, but not the "sleeper hit of the year"
- or whatever they were calling it.
- or maybe just a sleeper

but good for diablo cody-
wasnt she a stripper or something?

i guess she was the real success story.
oh and ellen page is adorable in general.

wonder what juno would look like had this worked out..
hahaha

Thursday, February 28, 2008

this is for real.

so being from nashville, its only customary to blog about our very own miley cyrus.
i mean destiny
or wait- its legally miley ray cyrus now.

ok so anyway
she was in town a month or so ago
and the news was all over it
but even more so were the scalpers.

tickets were skyrocketing
parents were complaining
and babies were crying.

for what?
kids, hannah, ain't real.
she wears a wig.
like rupaul.

at the end of the day
hannah- i mean miley- lets us know she is that down to earth southern girl afterall.

you better work it, girl.

i am officially a miley cyrus fan.
oh- like youve never made a video like this before!

and while youre at it, look at this site.
i think im in love.

Saturday, February 23, 2008

so im still making festival decisions for the summer..
definitely in:
jazzfest... baby
rothbury
- sickest lineup ive found thus far..

definite possibilities:
lolla la la
waka waka waka
bisco bisco

oh a dance note.
FLOSSTRADAMUS
saw these guys at lolla last year, so happy they will be back in action this summer.

sorry this one sounds horrible- but you get their vibe.

who said good sounds werent coming out of chicago?

Tuesday, February 19, 2008

this is fast money, baby.

so ive had blonde hair roughly.... my entire life.
except for those rebel college years when i dyed my hair brown.

ive recently gotten extreeeemely blonde.
almost out of control.
i thought that i was going to tone it down a bit
but BAM! its back and brighter than ever, yikees!

--------

now to the real world.
or the fake world... its all one in the same these days.

what is this world coming to?
all this young girl wants is a double cheeseburger...
can someone get her one so she can stop whoring around..
seriously. she just wants it her way. right away.

Friday, February 15, 2008

this is a fierce competition.

so now that project runway is in its 500th season-
ok 5th- is anyone watching anymore?

im not gonna lie, i get sucked into every marathon
even if ive already seen all of them.
i just cant get over christian.
seriously, he is totally that guy this season!
the one that gets on your nerves and you might not want him to win
but you really do.

it seems that he is the most consistent of the designers and deserves a good win.
no matter how cocky he can be at times..

Christian: "Don't these bitches know that I am way better than them?"

i hate to say it but i was pleased to see sweetpea go.
she was such a... well.. sweetie, but really-
wasnt she on there a little too long.
she was always having to get someone else's opinion.

right now, i feel that jillian is the "fiercest" competitor to christian.
watch out homeboy
she might pull through.
go girl go.

Sunday, February 10, 2008

this is ironic.

does anyone else wonder how they would have gotten through life without alanis morissette?
seriously.
jagged little pill saved my early teenage life.
and as im getting older, the album continues to serve its purpose.
so thank you alanis.
thank you for bringing out the jagged little pill in all of us.

Thursday, February 7, 2008

this is our generation.

I just came across a blog I wrote a while back.
My mom called to tell me of a 60 Minutes segment about our generation, which has recently and appropriately been labeled "The Millennials."
the generation encompasses those born between 1980 and 2000. it was really interesting to hear how companies are basically bending over backwards in order to get us in their workplace.

those in charge are realizing that our generation has the know-how and will power to get things done; however, we still want our free time. They are becoming more aware of our personal time and our lack of wanting to work over time. many companies are even hiring on groups of friends in order to fulfill our social needs.

ill post some articles about it so you can check it out.

it seems im always down about being unemployed, and i talk to many of you who are as well- have no fear, we are wanted. we just have to find the company that wants us. even if that means relocation- again. sigh.

this is a pretty old saying.

beer before whiskey mighty risky.
whiskey before beer, never fear.

ok maybe i went too far that time..
but seriously-
why cant i seem to remember that?

------

in other un-worldly news.
i found this sweet video.

unfortunately, if you came here via myspace, youve probably seen it on my page.

wait? that wasnt my page....
um.. yea...

this is music 01.24.08

ive discovered two new bands im really diggin'...

1. fruit bats

the quick run down.
its two people: Eric and Gillian (like i know them)
but its also an everchanging act to create the rest.
they are from chicago-
...if you know me, you know i love all things chicago related.

here's the long run

i came across these guys while looking on amazon for "sounds like: the shins."
im not really sure what else to compare them too..
a folky group, id say.
hints of the shins, ben folds, a little sufjan.. some wilco, too. definitely wilco...
oooh oooh oooh ben kweller?
his voice has a twangy sound to it, which i love.
and im totally into the banjo.

the song "when you love somebody" seems to be their breakout hit on mouthfuls
the most getcha goin song on the album :)
the song "little acorn" also on mouthfuls has this eerie resemblence of beck meets stone temple pilots..
this ends at :34 in the song.

so yea go listen to these guys if you have an interest in knowing more about a sound that can manage to blend:
the shins, ben folds, sufjan stevens, wilco, ben kweller, beck and stone temple pilots.

gnarly.

2. robots in disguise.

two ladies from the UK blending that funky dance music those brits are known for.
basically if metric moved across the atlantic ocean and met the queen.
no, silly. not that queen.

oh, and they are both into the mighty boosh, which is something we can all appreciate.

im not sure what it is about these gals, but i cant tell if i want to dance like crazy or travel through a haunted house with them as the playlist.

i actually came across robots in disguise on none other then my beloved youtube!

they have a video for their title track the sex has made me stupid
this is definitely something i want playing at my next dance party.

this is 2004 all over again?

are you serious?
come on people,

john mccain vs. hillary clinton?
are you kidding me?

im sorry but i dont want my entire lifetime dictated by the bushy clinton group.
lets get a new klan in.
everyone bitched about bush getting a second term
but youre basically giving clinton a third!

where are the fresh ideas?
where are the young people that are "all about voting?"
do you really want a woman president?
i am a woman.
i saw clinton get teary-eyed on tv.
do you want her running her country the seat of her.... hormones?
i know what hormones are like- i deal with them.
fuck.

ok and mccain?
he couldnt pick a party if his life depended on it.
he has stated on more then one occasion, that they war will CONTINUE!
another 100 years

my most recent sent email.

what ever your beliefs are, is this really what you want?
he is winning the republican race.
just keep that in mind on february 5 (tennessee).
march 4 (texas)

oh and lets keep hillary out, too.
is that too much to ask?

(im not sure if the videos will send, so just go to the links.)

mccain vs. the beach boys

100 more years, seriously?

trading berqas?

- this is mccain trying to poke fun at ron paul. (paul is trying to
make a serious point, and does it.)
- gets annoying after a while- fast forward to 2:43 and it continues.

make up ya mind, son

he just called out an entire community... who will be next?

ok. sorry this is just funny.

im not trying to persuade you one way or another... no, seriously. hahahaha...

hippies are republicans, too :)

this is getting ridiculous

it is 4:12pm central time in tennessee.
i was just informed of our newest actor heartbreak.

heath ledger was found dead in his new york apt. apparently with a candyland of pills.
too clarify: he was found in mary kate olsen's apartment.
- she deserves a whole entry to herself, but that another story.

i just dont get it.
he just had a baby with ex-fiance michelle williams
and is the new joker..

many updates have been made about this... check out cnn.com

Monday, January 21, 2008

this is about yellow pants.

here recently i have been slacking on the creative juices.
seems like everytime i try to be creative
whether its writing in my non-public life journal or filling out college apps, i just cant find the energy to get it done.

i need to get my inspiration back.
does anyone have any ideas??

------

team pickle tits was back in action lastnight!
unfortunately, our third round of trivia did not have enough "umph" to carry us into third place.
instead we just drank, played foosball and enjoyed the company of old and new friends.

------

earlier that day we went thrift shopping.
ben tried on these amazingly awesome (and awfully tight) yellow pants.

p.s. im confused as to why this post dates back to january 19 (saturday) when we clearly did not go out until sunday. oh, and today is monday!

Saturday, January 19, 2008

this is britney's life.

the newsest headline reads:
"The AP Has Written Britney Spears' Obituary"

seriously? are they serious?
i cannot believe the media has stooped so low this time.
they are declaring the idea of britney's death as
"[the obit] is easily one of the biggest stories in a long time"

so basically the people who created the mega superstar are just as quick to destroy her.
imagine that.

.oh britney.
with your interesting array of boyfriends and children you cannot mother.
i couldnt imagine your life, i couldnt imagine people in my face 24/7.
like our own little janis joplin.
thrown in every direction until she doesnt know who she is.

live on britney. live on.

side note: i am not in anyway comparing the late great janis joplin's musical talents to those of our britney spears. i am merely stating that they were both created by their "handlers" and in turn self destructed themselves.

Wednesday, January 16, 2008

this is brad's end.

brad renfro was pronounced dead on tuesday.
it is true that all the cute ones have issues and end up dying before their time.
its too bad. when i was a kid, i always enjoyed posting his photos from bop magazine on my walls.

i guess this will have to do now.

Tuesday, January 15, 2008

this is me abandoning an idea.

this seems to be a recurring problem of mine.
i am always starting projects and quickly ending them.
or merely not finishing them.

i have decided now just to write about whatever i want.
pop culture is a big part of my life, so those thoughts will always be prevelant.

im currently unemployed
everyday i log onto the same websites digging through the same boring jobs.
when does this rat race end?
can these kids in college just slow it down a minute.
if i dont hurry and find a job, my grandkids will be employed before me.

ive been thinking a lot about what i want to do.
i have things that really get my going
writing. researching. promoting.

so for the last week and a half, i have been digging through websites hoping to find the perfect gig that will send me on my way to a happy ending.
wait- i mean beginning.

sure- sitting on my sofa for hours a day waiting for my friends to get home is a wonderful lifestyle,
but its just not for me anymore.
although my kitty never seems to grow tired of this life.

so hopefully ill soon be out of a lease and into a job.
rent is ridiculous in west end, and i dont have an income.

Monday, January 7, 2008

this is youtube.

i am a HUGE youtuber-
seriously, i could watch youtube every minute of the day.
people are proving that they are unbelievably talented (or stupid) when given the opp to make a movie!

there are so many movies to explore and people to learn about.
i have come up with a few that are my all time favorites (up to now).

in no particular order.

have you guys seen this?
this took some major skill and patience!
i love it.
check out some other video game inspired- human inacted videos
official site

for some reason this video is very emotional to me.
im not sure if it is the original music or his expressionless face.
either way- very touching and creative.
here is his site.
